Why the Ravi Changes Your Timing
This is the only area on our list that is separated from the rest of Lahore by a river, and it is the first thing to plan around.
Everything routes through the bridges
Trips into the city, to the airport, or to the motorway all cross the Ravi. In the morning and evening peaks the approach to the bridges is where the delay sits, not the distance itself.
Leave earlier than the distance suggests
A journey that looks like twenty minutes on a map can take considerably longer at peak times because of the crossing. We build that into the pickup time rather than leaving you to discover it.
The Metrobus terminal is the landmark
Shahdara Metrobus Terminal, on Old Ravi Bridge Road, is the northern terminus of the Lahore Metrobus. It is the easiest pickup point to name in the whole area, and every driver knows it.
Going north is the easy direction
GT Road runs north from here towards Gujranwala and beyond. If your trip is northward, Shahdara is an advantage, not an obstacle.
Heritage
The Mughal Monuments on Your Doorstep
Shahdara Bagh, on the western bank of the Ravi, holds one of the densest groups of Mughal monuments anywhere in Pakistan. Most visitors to them arrive by car.
The precinct contains the Tomb of Jahangir, the Tomb of Asif Khan, the Tomb of Nur Jahan and the Akbari Sarai, along with Kamran’s Baradari, which was built on the riverbank and became an island when the Ravi changed course. The name Shahdara means the passage of kings, from its role as the Mughal approach to Lahore.
We are regularly booked by visitors, including overseas families, who want to see the tombs and then continue into the Walled City on the same day. A car with a driver works well for this because the sites are spread out and parking at each one is limited.
For a half or full day of sightseeing, a Corolla or a BR-V is usually enough. For a larger group, the Grand Cabin at PKR 13,000 keeps everyone together.

Where People Go From Shahdara
North is the natural direction. Sialkot, Gujranwala and Wazirabad are all straightforward from here on GT Road, and Lahore to Islamabad is a common booking. All intercity fares include the driver, the fuel and the tolls.
The airport is on the opposite side of the city, past the river and across Lahore, so it is the longest airport run of any area we cover. This is the one journey where we would always advise booking the car the night before and leaving with time in hand.
For visitors staying near the tombs, a car with a driver for the day is usually the sensible option, because the alternative is repeated crossings of the river.

Shahdara is the furthest of the five areas from our base, so if you have a fixed departure time, book ahead rather than on the hour. For same-day requests we will tell you honestly what is achievable rather than promise a time and miss it.

Do you deliver rental cars to Shahdara?
Yes. Give us the address, or name the Metrobus terminal on Old Ravi Bridge Road if that is easier, and the car comes to you.
How much is a rental car per day in Shahdara?
From PKR 4,000 a day for a Suzuki Wagon R and PKR 5,500 for a Toyota Corolla, driver included. A Honda BR-V with seven seats is PKR 8,000.
Does being across the river cost more?
No. The daily rate is the same as anywhere else in Lahore. What changes is the timing, not the price.
How long does it take to reach the city centre?
Longer than the distance suggests at peak times, because traffic builds at the bridge approaches rather than on the road itself. We set the pickup time with that in mind.
Can I hire a car to visit Jahangir’s tomb?
Yes, and it is a regular booking. The tombs of Jahangir, Asif Khan and Nur Jahan, along with the Akbari Sarai, are spread across the Shahdara Bagh precinct, so a car with a driver is the practical way to see them.
Can you take us to the Walled City on the same day?
Yes. Shahdara Bagh in the morning and the Walled City afterwards is the usual pattern, and a driver removes the parking problem at both ends.
Is Shahdara good for travelling north?
Yes. GT Road runs north from here towards Gujranwala and Sialkot, so northward trips start faster from Shahdara than from most of Lahore.
How early should I book for a flight?
The night before. The airport is on the far side of the city beyond the river, which makes this the longest airport run of the areas we cover.
